Tip #05-12: When cutting composite rods and tubes, place a damp paper towel under the cutting area to catch the fibers and to make clean up easier.

May 2012

Dry cutting composite rods and tubes can be a messy undertaking.  Stray fibers and dust can enter the air and collect on your worktable.  An easy solution for this problem is a damp paper towel.  When placed under the cutting area, the damp towel collects stray fibers and dust produced during cutting.    The towel can be simply discarded when finished allowing for easy clean up.  This technique helps to lessen the amount of fiber dust that enters the air but is not a replacement for wearing a face mask while cutting.
